United Kingdom remains the top source market (2.2 million visitors in July).
Spain is indeed heading for a record breaking summer
Spain is indeed heading for a record breaking summer, with both visitor numbers and tourist spending surging to historic highs.
The latest data shows a powerful combination of rising arrivals, higher per visitor spending, and strong performance across Spain’s major destinations.
Spain is on track for one of the strongest tourism summers ever, with up to 43 million visitors and €64 billion in spending expected between June and September, around 6% more tourists and 10% more spending than last summer.
Record Spending & Visitor Growth
€18.218 billion spent in July alone, a 10.9% increase year on year — the highest July figure ever recorded.
11.5 million tourists visited in July, up 4.6% from 2025 — the highest monthly arrival figure in Spain’s history.
From January to July, Spain welcomed 58.1 million visitors (+4.6%) who spent €82 billion (+7.8%).
Summer 2026 Forecast: A Record Season
Government projections indicate:
43 million international tourists expected between June–September (+6%).
€64 billion in spending, up 10% from 2025.
Strong last minute bookings may push numbers even higher.
Spain may even surpass 100 million annual visitors for the first time if current trends continue.
Who’s Visiting?
United Kingdom remains the top source market (2.2 million visitors in July).
France and Germany follow, both showing strong rebounds in arrivals and spending.
Italy and Switzerland show notable double digit growth.
Where Are They Going?
Top destinations in July:
Balearic Islands – 22.3% of all visitors
Catalonia – 20.6%
Andalusia – 14.6%
But a major trend is emerging: Spain’s interior and “Green Spain” regions are growing faster than traditional coastal hotspots, with spending rising 8–10% in inland communities.
Why Spending Is Surging
Higher prices in accommodation and leisure
Increased spending on package holidays (+19%)
Longer stays and higher daily expenditure (€218/day)
The government sees this as proof that its tourism model transformation strategy is working, shifting toward higher value, more sustainable tourism.
