Tourism officials note that many of Spain’s most sought‑after “authentic” experiences, secluded coves, mountain viewpoints, and small family‑run restaurants, remain difficult to access without a car.

The trend mirrors a broader European shift. While Europe’s rail network continues to expand, millions of travellers are discovering that some of the continent’s most memorable locations lie far from major stations: alpine lakes in Austria, Normandy’s coastal towns, Slovenia’s countryside, or Portugal’s remote surf beaches.

Rental cars offer direct access to these areas, reducing travel time and allowing spontaneous detours that scheduled transport cannot accommodate.
