Ryanair & Starlink: Is Inflight Wi-Fi Worth It?

Ryanair has ruled out installing Starlink internet on its aircraft, saying most passengers are unwilling to pay for Wi-Fi on its short, low-cost flights.

Chief executive Michael O’Leary argues that adding satellite antennas would increase fuel costs and clash with Ryanair’s ultra-low fare model, where optional extras can already rival the price of the ticket itself.

The comments drew a quick response from SpaceX boss Elon Musk, who warned that airlines without onboard internet risk losing customers to rivals that offer it.

With a fleet of almost 650 aircraft carrying more than 200 million passengers a year, fitting Wi-Fi across the airline would be a major operational and financial commitment.

While some full-service airlines now offer free inflight connectivity, Ryanair says it has no plans to follow suit for now.
