London Heathrow recorded its busiest full year ever for passenger traffic in 2025, handling nearly 84.5 million passengers, slightly surpassing the total from 2024.
The airport set passenger records in nine of the 12 months and marked its busiest single day on 1 August, when more than 270,000 travellers passed through its terminals.
Aircraft movements also reached a record high, with 477,883 flights during the year.
London Stansted Airport also reported its busiest year on record in 2025, with passenger numbers exceeding 30 million for the first time.
New route launches and increased seat capacity contributed to the growth, with the airport recording 16 days during the year when passenger numbers exceeded 100,000, compared with 10 days in 2024.
Stansted closed the year with its busiest-ever December, driven by strong festive season demand.
Airport authorities said Dublin and Istanbul were the most popular destinations from Stansted, with nearly one million passengers travelling to and from each city. Edinburgh ranked third, while Turkey joined Spain and Italy as the top countries for passenger traffic.
Demand is expected to increase further with the launch of 15 weekly flights to Istanbul by Turkish Airlines, scheduled to begin in March.
