Flight Prices Set to Rise in 2026

Manchester Airport has warned holidaymakers that trips booked for 2026 will “inevitably” cost more, as airports face sharp rises in property taxes.

Manchester is among the worst-affected airports following changes to the business rates calculation system. Its property tax bill is expected to increase by more than £4 million next year, prompting concerns that higher operating costs will be passed on to passengers through increased fares.

The warning comes as regional airports across the UK prepare for what industry figures describe as “unprecedented” rises in business rates. Research by PA shows that regional airports are among the businesses facing the steepest increases, with some potentially seeing their rates double within the next three years.

While major London hubs such as Heathrow and Gatwick are also set to see significant increases, the sharpest hikes are expected at airports outside the South East.

Airport operators argue that the changes will place additional pressure on regional connectivity and could ultimately make air travel more expensive for consumers.
