Mediterranean Cleanup Campaign

The Mediterranean, one of the world’s most polluted semi enclosed seas, has multiple parallel initiatives that feed into the global International Coastal Cleanup movement.

International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) – Global Event on 19 September 2026

This is the official global cleanup day coordinated by Ocean Conservancy, with activities in 120+ countries, including many Mediterranean nations.

Events include beach cleanups, waste categorization, and citizen science data collection.

Mediterranean relevance: Spain, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Tunisia, and others typically host ICC events.

Data collected helps evaluate coastal ecosystem health and plastic pollution trends.
