Today the busiest day for flying so far this year

Today (19 July) is set to be the busiest day for UK flight departures so far in 2024.

According to data from aviation analytics firm Cirium, over 3,214 departures alone are scheduled.

This is the highest number of daily departures since October 2019.

This weekend (Friday 19 – Sunday 21 July 2024), 9,075 flights are scheduled to depart UK airports, which represents over 1.6 million seats

Scheduled departures over the weekend equate to 93% of 2019 pre-pandemic levels.

Although the number of flights is still below 2019 levels, there are actually 2,500 more available seats due to more large aircraft deployed.

Heathrow Airport has the highest number of departures, followed by London Gatwick, Manchester, Stansted and Edinburgh

Cirium says the most popular international destinations for the UK will be Dublin, Amsterdam, Palma, Alicante and Malaga

EasyJet is projected to operate the most UK departures this weekend, followed by Ryanair, British Airways, Jet2.com and TUI.
