Spain joins the UK in installing 3D airport security screening

Spain will follow the UK in streamlining airport security screening

Passengers at Spanish airports will soon be able to take more than 100ml of liquids in their hand luggage.

From 2024, restrictions on liquids will be removed at some Spanish terminals.

Airport operator AENA will install new 3D X-ray screening equipment at Madrid Barajas and Barcelona El-Prat Airports.

Several other airports will get the new technology by 2026.

It allows screening to be completed without removing liquids or electronics from bags.

The new screening machines have been tested in the US and some UK airports will use them from mid-2024.

They are expected to significantly speed up passenger screening lines at airports.
