Spain issues Dengue Fever holiday alert

Spain has issued an advisory warning of possible Dengue Fever infections this summer.

There is a ‘moderate’ risk of people getting Dengue during the summer.

The risk factor is centered on the Balearic Islands.

There were a small number of cases last summer in Ibiza.

Symptoms of Dengue Fever include a high temperature, headaches, skin rashes and swollen glands.

It can be fatal in some cases.

“One of the potential vectors of dengue is the Aedes albopictus mosquito, present throughout the area,” the health ministry said.

Balearic Islands authorities will prepare vector control measures ahead of the summer season.

This includes public announcements to highlight the risks.
