Bad weather boosts Heathrow passenger traffic in July

London Heathrow saw a surge in overseas trips in July as holidaymakers escaped the dreary weather.

There were 7.6 million air travellers during July, according to the airport’s passenger traffic data.

The rush to the sunshine saw an average of a quarter of a million daily passengers.

Heathrow said over 73,000 passengers flew to Turkey alone in July, the busiest month ever for the country.

Passenger traffic to Portugal and Italy was also near all-time highs.

Transatlantic flights also proved popular, with a 42% spike so far this year.

“It’s great to see so many passengers getting away to grab some summer sun,” said airport CEO, John Holland-Kaye.

“We’ve got a great range of popular destinations and our teams are delivering excellent service.”

However, overall numbers still remain below pre-pandemic levels.
